Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Report April ( Week 2 )

This Lake Allatoona striper and hybrid fishing guides report has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Guide Service, 770 827 6282. www.firstbiteguideservice.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@comcast.net

Line side fishing has been a little bit slower this week but is still good. With the recent rains and the cold nights the striper bite has slowed down. But to my surprise it hasn’t hurt the hybrid bite that much. Look for it to pick back up as the water warms. The fish have back down out of the river due to the muddy water but they should move back up quickly as the water clears. The spawn hasn’t reach it prime. So keep you eye on the river for the next 3 to 4 weeks. For you guys that don’t want to go up the river, the south and north ends of the lake is still holding a ton of hybrids. These fish are biting flat lines and planner boards in the morning. The down lines and Mack Farr umbrella rigs are a go when the sun gets up. The umbrella rig bite is the best bite going. Look for these fish to be off main lake points and on the edge of the humps.

Line side fishing is great and the Striper and Hybrid bite is on fire. We are still catching between 20 to 50 fish on most trips. But the good news is we are starting to see more Stripers in the mix.. The fish are schooling up and are staging for the spawn run up the rivers. The recent rains we have had has push the fish out of the rivers and back into the main lake. As soon as the water clears up the rivers it will be GAME on for you river anglers. Almost every point and flat north of Clear Creek is holding good numbers of fish. I would think the river run will be in full swing by the first week of April. We are also catching good numbers of line sides on the south end of the lake like Iron Hill, Clark Creek and around the Islands at Red Top have been great. But your best bet in the up coming weeks will be up north. Mid lake fishermen should fish the main lake points and flats. Flat lines and planner boards have been producing fish early. But the down line bite has been better for big fish and numbers. This is the time of year to pull big baits for big stripers. Use shad as big as 10 to 12 inches. Trolling is really starting to improve. The fish are moving up in the water column and on the flats. The Mack Farr umbrella rig is a great way to catch these fish.

Line sides fishing is GREAT. The Dead Sea is Alive !!! My clients this week have caught as many as 46 Stripers and Hybrids on a half a day trip. The fish are starting to school up and are scatter from southend to the northend of the lake including the rivers. The bite up the rivers should be on fire in the next two weeks. We are also catching goon numbers of line-sides on the south end of the lake ( Iron Hill, Clark Creek and around the Islands at Redtop ) has been really good for me this week, But your best bet in the up coming weeks will be up north. Mid lake fishermen should fish the mouths of the creeks. Flat-lines and planner boards have been producing numbers. But the down-line bite has been better for big fish. This is the time of year to pull BIG Baits for Big stripers. So don’t be afraid to use shad as big as 10-12 inches .

Trolling is really starting to improve. The fish are moving up in the water column and on the flats .And the Mack Farr u-rig is a GREAT way to catch these fish . I look for a great trolling bite come April…

Linesides fishing Is Great !!! The bite this week has been great and maybe even better then last weeks, change nothing….. I have caught fish on Swim-baits, Live bait fished on down-lines free-lines planner boards, spoons and single buck-tails. Both the north end and south end are holding good numbers of Hybrids and Stripers. And the best part of it is these fish are willing to eat almost anything right now. They are getting ready to make the spawn run and are feasting themselves before the run up the rivers. Now is the time to take the cover off your boat and get on the pond. The bite on Allatoona is only going to get better in the up coming weeks. Give us a call and book your trip today….. We are also giving away another fishing trip. Linesides fishing Is starting to get good. The shad kill is 99 percent over with. Fish are starting to eat. Little River through the S turns to Victoria Landing are holding decent numbers of hybrids. The southern end also has some fish in the Allatoona Creek area. Flat-lines, planer boards and down-lines are all working best at sunup and sundown. During the middle of the day, U-rigs are the best bite right now. “With rising water temps, it almost looks like they’re staging for the river run. By the second week of March, the river run will be full swing,” We still have a few days open next week. Give me a call at 770 827-6282 and book your trip today. Linesides fishing is starting to get better. And should return to normal by next week……I got to the lake this moring around 8am and spent 4 hours graphing from Kellogg’s to the Dam. The good new is the shad kill is ALMOST OVER. In the four hour I was on the pond I saw a total of 3 dying shad. And the bait is moving back up into the creek into warmer water. I threw the net a couple of times and was able to net some really nice Thread-fins. The bait was active and seems to be doing well in my tanks. I also found a great supply of Gizzard shad as well. Maybe this spring want be as bad as last spring went it comes to catching bait.

This is a very good sign the kill is close to and end. I sure I could have caught a few fish, but my intentions was just to get on the pond and check out where we stood with the shad kill. With the warmer weather they are calling for next week. I look for things to change quick and hopefully by this time next week. I will have a few pictures and video’s of some Toona fish……..

Linesides fishing is dead on Lake Allatoona. Nothing has change on Allatoona since last week. the bite is still Dead and Carters isn’t much better. And from what I here ( Mack Farr 2/1/11 ) Lanier is in the same boat as Allatoona and Carters. The shad kill is in full swing and you can not buy a bite on live bait, umbrella rigs or spoons. We will not sell another trip on Allatoona until the bite picks back up. We will be moving all of our trips to Carters and Lanier until we see and improvement on Lake Allatoona. We plan to fish Allatoona at least twice a week on my days off just to keep in tune with what is going with the fishing on the lake. If you are heading out this weekend to do a little striper fishing with the kids, you may want to try Carters Lake or Lake Lanier.
