Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Report Feb ( Week 1 )

This Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Report Is Bought To You By Robert Eidson Of First Bite Guide Service. www.firstbiteguideservice.com 770 827-6282

Stripers: Poor ,Their are still dead shad from one end of the lake to the other but not as many as last week. Fishing should get back to normal in the next two weeks. The lake is still heavily stain from all the rain we have had in the past two weeks and is rising fast. The key to catching fish when the bite turns back on is to find clear water. The backs of the creeks will clear first and will be your best bet. Small baits trout, shiners and shad fished on planner boards and free-lines will be your best bet.

Trolling: Poor, Until the lake clears up trolling isn’t worth the time or gas…

Until the fishing picks back up on Lake Allatoona. I will be moving all of my trips to Lanier. We have also cancel all trips to Carters Lake do to the shad kill……..

Stripers: Poor , The rain we had last week has bought the lake level up more then six feet in less then a week. The lake is rolling mud on the north and south ends off the lake. The rest of the lake is heavily stain. The shad kill is Still in full swing and there are dead shad and gulls everywhere. This is with out question the biggest shad kill we have had in years. This has and will make fishing tough for a few more weeks but in the long run it will be a big benefit to all anglers this coming spring.

If you just got to get out and try you luck be sure to take some small shiners and jigging spoons. Also try a medium-sized shiner fished under a cork, like you’re crappie fishing. Watch your fish-finder for big schools of bait that are near the top of the water column, 10 to 12 feet deep. You’ll see some shad on top that are dying,” . and fish the edge of the dying bait. Look for these fish to be 2/3 of the way in back of the creeks.

Until the fishing picks back up on Lake Allatoona. I will be moving all of my trips to Lanier. We have also cancel all trips to Carters Lake do to the shad kill……..

Stripers: Poor , The shad kill is in full swing and there are dead shad and gulls everywhere. There are even died shad on the banks inside the marina’s right now. The lake is stain from one end to the other and the water temp is in the high 30Th’s to low 40Th’s. This is with out question the biggest shad kill we have had in years. This has and will make fishing tough for a few weeks but in the long run it will be a big benefit to all anglers this coming spring.

Stripers: Fair at best, The shad kill has started and there are gulls everywhere. There are even died shad on the banks right now. The lake is stain from one end to the other and the water temp is in the high 30Th’s to low 40Th’s. There is a very good chance that this will be the biggest shad kill we have had in years. This will make fishing tough for a few weeks but in the long run it will be a big benefit to all anglers this coming spring.

If you just got to get out and try you luck be sure to take some small shiners and jigging spoons. Also try a medium-sized shiner fished under a cork, like you’re crappie fishing. Line-Sides is Fair at best. This burtal cold weather we are having has given the fish lock jaw. The water temperture is falling fast, and I look for the shad kill to start early this year.

If you are willing to brave the cold then mid-lake would be your best bet. Try to find the clearest water posible and fish Shiners, shad and small trout on free-lines and planner boards. Remember to down size your hooks to match your shiners for more strikes.

After the sun comes up switch to pulling umbrella Rigs. I have had my best luck this week pulling my rigs 145 feet behind the boat at 3.1 to 3.4 miles and hour.. As the lake starts to clears and the temperture starts to warm back up I look for the umbrella rig bite to get great.

Line-Sides is Good. I didn’t fish as much as I would have like this week due to the weather but the few times I was on the water fishing was good. The bait is starting to move back into the Creek and so are the Striper and Hybrids. Mid lake seems to be holding better numbers of fish then the southend and the northend but I think all the creeks on the lake will produce line-sides right now. Shiners fished on free-lines and planner boards are producing better then trout and shad right now. Remember to down size your hooks to match your shiners for more strikes. After the sun comes up switch to pulling umbrella Rigs. I have had my best luck this week pulling my rigs 145 feet behind the boat at 3.1 to 3.4 miles and hour. And have caught fish weighting up to 16 lbs. As the lake starts to clears the umbrella rig bite will get great . I still have a few days open next week. Line side fishing is good and the bite this week is the same as last week so change nothing. The water temperatures finally hit the magic number of 55 degrees and with that the top water action has taken off. Flat lines and planner boards are working great right at sun up threadfin and gizzard shad are working well. By mid day change over to down lines. But trout seems to be out fishing shad 3 to 1. Mid lake is still the place to be. There are tons of fish between Kellogg Creek and Stamp Creek right now. This is the only part of the lake we have needed to fish in the past 3 weeks. There may be some fish up in Allatoona Creek we just haven’t been that far south in weeks. Trolling has been by far the best bite on the water after the sun comes up. December and January are 2 of the only months of the year that trolling will out product live bait fishing sometimes as much as 7 to 1 in a full day trip. This is the time of the year you have to be universal when it comes to striper fishing. We prefer live bait fishing over trolling but there are just sometimes of the year that trolling just can’t be beat. Top water is really starting to heat up. So keep a spook or a Sammy ready for these busting beasts.

Line-sides The bite on Allatoona this week has been Fair at best. The lake is murky from one end to the other and visibility is less then two feet. The best bite on the lake right now is mid lake around Bartow Carver. Free-lines and Planner-Boards are still working best right at sun up and then again at sun down. Once the sun comes up switch to down-lines in the same area’s. Trolling is very slow right now. The umbrella rig bite will pick back up as the water clears.

With the bite on Allatoona being on the slow side this past week . I moved most of my trips this past week to Carters Lake. The bite on Carters has been very good for Trophy Stripers and Spots. On Sunday 12/6 Grayson Usrey age 12 boated two Trophy caliper fish one being a 22 lb Striper and the other being a 5.8 lb Spotted bass. Then on Tuesday 12/8 Doctor Pham of Dallas Ga boated his personal best Striper weighting in a 21.15 lbs and also a 5+ lb Spot. I would like to Congratulate both Grayson and Doctor Pham on their great catches…..We are running a special right now thought the end of Jan. If you book a 6 hour trip on Carters Lake with First Bite Guide Service and Mention Have Fun Fishing you will recieve and extra 2 hours on me. That right 8 hours for the price of 6. Linesides: Good, not great, but should get better when the weather stabilizes. The flatline and planer-board bite is starting to pick up but is over with by 9:30 am. “Then it’s downrods and four-arm U-rigs. We caught more fish this week on our U-rigs then live bait, and that’s the best bite right now. I am targeting the flats from Victoria all the way up to Clear Creek. I’m not even looking in the Allatoona arm right now. There’s a ton of fish moving up on flats and points to feed on small threadfin right now. Catch them on jigging spoons or Rooster Tails if you can get them deep enough. Fish 10 to 12 feet deep. The flats off Gaults have been good, as well as the island at Harbor Town and Bartow-Carver. Seagulls are starting to show up. I expect in December the fishing will be full blown. Key on birds and topwater. Keep a Super Fluke, Sammy or Zara Spook ready. Pull flatlines and planer boards, and later in the mornings pull a lighter three-arm U-rig.” We still have a few days open for Christmas Break give me a call at 770 827-6282 and lets take the kids fishing…….View my daily catches at www.lakeallatoonafishing.net under the thread Recent Trips With First Bite….
