Line side fishing is Better andgetting better asthe water temp drops….. Plan your trip around either sun up or sun down. If you’re planning on a four or five hour trip you are going to spend a lot of time just watching your fish finder. There is a decent top water bite lasting about 30 minutes at sun up and then again at sun down. Find the fish schooling on top from Kellogg’s Creek up to Bethany Bridge and use something small to catch them like the Rooster Tail, a Fluke Jr. or a Zara Puppy. After the top water bite shuts down you may be able to catch a few down lining to 24 feet over fish you see on your graph but the fish are very finicky. These fish are nibbling the baits but very few will actually take it. Dissolved oxygen levels are very low in the lake right now. They are not pulling much water through the dam because the lake is already low. Something needs to change before the fish will start biting again like some kind of a cold front or a tropical storm to get the water moving. On into September we can expect the fishing to improve dramatically. Soon the top water bite will keep getting better. September is always a good month for top water fish on Allatoona. The other good bite that should turn on this month is trolling umbrella rigs.

Linesides: Fair. Nothing has change, fishing is still slow on Allatoona. I still think we need a major cold front or a ton a rain to get these finicky fish to eat…. The fish are still schooling in depths for 20 - 40 feet deep. And trolling single bucktails and small crank baits my be your best bet right now. Live bait will also catch you a few fish. Down line your bait over the river channels between 20 40 feet deep. Make sure you use long leaders 6-8 feet is what I”m using on Allatoona right now. White bass - Small Hybrids. fishing is still the best bite on the lake. These fish are schooling on top from sun up to sun down… Just ride until you find them. Mid-lake has been the best. A jr spook is working best for these little line-side. With the cools nights coming up fishing should really get good in the next couple of weeks.

Good. The live-bait bite is starting to fall off some because it’s hard to keep your shad alive, and the trolling bite is starting to pick up. We are catching 10 to 30 stripers and hybrids on a morning trip right now. Because dissolved oxygen is so low in the lake right now, all of the fish seem to be within eyesight of the dam. Concentrate your efforts on either arm within a mile of the dam. Anywhere from the mouth of Stamp Creek to Bethany Bridge should hold fish. Good places to look are Coopers Branch, Iron Hill and the Red Top Campground cove. Once you find the fish, start the morning fishing live shad downlined to 24 feet. This can be a good bite if you’re on feeding fish, but fresh baits every three or four minutes are necessary to keep lively shad on the line. Once this peters out, switch to trolling umbrella rigs. I have been having most of my success pulling nine 1/2-oz. white bucktails with chartreuse trailers about 110 feet behind the boat, which puts his rigs about 24 feet deep. Also keep your topwater baits ready in case any schooling fish come up. They’ll hit a popping cork, fluke or Sammy, but I prefers the biggest white Rooster Tail he can find. The secret to getting bit is to fish with light line (6-lb. test) and to retrieve your bait as fast as you can crank it in. In these conditions it’s important to get your fish back in the water quickly if you want to release it. Keep your camera ready because a quick release can mean the difference between a dead fish and one that swims away. We also suggested riding back over the area you just fished and keeping any floaters.

Decent The bite this week is the same as last weeks just a little on the slow side change nothing…. The summer bite is in full swing, and we are catching a ton of fish downlining and pulling umbrella rigs on the south end of the lake. The dissolved oxygen levels have plummeted up north, and the fish have all moved south to between Bartow-Carver and the dam. Check Clear, Stamp, McKaskey creeks and Cooper Branch on up to the Bethany Bridge area and into the Allatoona Creek Arm. The thermocline is starting to set up at about 28 feet, and we are catching all of our fish either downlining or trolling u-rigs between 18 - 28 feet. “Downlining a threadfin shad is absolutely the best bite on the lake,” with trollling running a close second “. But remember we are in the dog ” Days ” of summer and shad will die quickly on the line, so take a lot of bait or keep a bucket of shiners as a back-up.” They’re biting shiners about 25 percent as well as they’re hitting the threadfins, but you’ll need to match the size of your hook to the size of your bait or the fish won’t hit. For example, A size 6 Gamakatsu octopus on a medium shiner is a good match. When using smaller hooks, be sure to use quality hooks so the fish don’t straighten them out.

Linesides: Good !!!! The fishing this week is the same as last week change nothing…. The Trolling bite is starting to over take the live bait bite on Lake Allatoona. The dissolved oxygen level on Lake Allatoona is making live bait fishing tough. Shad have less then a five minute life span on a hook fish deeper then 20 feet right now. And the window of opportunity for catching numbers on live bait is less then and hour and a half right at sun up. This is the time of year where trollers rule, and will for the next two months. The key to good numbers in late summer is to be “universal”. And what I mean by this is to be open mined every-time you head to the lake. Live Bait, Umbrella Rigs, deep diving, crank baits, spoons, and lead-core will all work this time of year. But when you combine all of these techniques into one outing the rewards just may out weight you catch. To me there is nothing more gratifying then to catch Stripers on more then one technigue on any given outing……So remember guys this is the time of year you may have to throw the kichen sink at them. But if they are willing to eat it then throw it……lol.

Linesides - Great nothing has changed since my last report except the trolling bite may be a little better…. The down-line bite is in full swing and the Hybrids are just killing live bait right now. Shad is still out fishing shiners, but the shiner bite is probably the best I have seen all year. Mid-lake is the place to be right now. And fish can be caught in the mouths to half way back of all the creeks from Kellogg’s to as far south as Clark’s creek. But you best chances to loading the boat is mid-lake. The trolling bite is also starting to pick up. And it is hard to beat a Mack Farr 4 arm umbrella rig loaded with 9 1/2 oz jigs fished 100 feet out at 2.4 miles and hour. The top water bite is also starting to get good early and then again right before sun down in eye site of the dam……Fishing right now is as good as it gets on Lake Allatoona. Give us a call at 770 827-6282 for your next family outing……Until then tights lines……..Firstbite…….
